The district heating network of Bruneck supplies the entire urban area, including surrounding districts and the neighboring municipalities of Percha and Gais. Heat is primarily generated at the Luns district heating plant and supplemented by the St. Georgen heating plant. Additional heating plants in Gais and Reischach, equipped with gas and oil boiler systems, provide backup capacity and cover peak demand. In order to rsignificantly reduce the use of natural gas as a fossil fuel while increasing security of supply, Bruneck Municipal Utilities commissioned the construction of a new heating plant at the Luns site. The Luns 2 heating plant is predominantly powered by biomass and incorporates advanced energy technologies:
• Biomass boiler with TO system, condensation system, and absorption heat pump
• Automatic wood chip feeding
• ORC system
• PV system
• Gas and oil boiler systems
